Testimony Tuesday 7/26

We are so blessed, even more than we realize on a daily basis. The other day I saw an older man walking, carrying a back pack. I noticed that it was 98 degrees outside and way too hot to be walking a long distance. I turned around and pulled over, asking if he needed a ride. He got in the car, said he was headed home, and pointed me in the direction. We made small talk, but about 20 minutes later, he said, “Just up here at the light, you can let me out.” I said, “I don’t mind taking you all of the way home.” He said, “You just did. I live right over there.” and pointed under a bridge at several tents. He said, “Would you like to come see where I live and meet my neighbors?”

We walked over to the “Tent Community” and as he showed me around, I couldn’t help but feel extreme sadness. I met about 12 different people, from ages 24 to 68, both female and male, as well as black and white, all were the same, just people! I saw some tents that were junked up, and some that were as clean as they could be, for having no electricity and no water. I sat with them and heard each of their stories, all sad, but each story was told with hope for a brighter tomorrow.

I only had $73 dollars on me (cash) and had 11 McDonald $5 gift cards. I gave all that I had, but knew it wasn’t enough. So, I asked if they would care for me taking pictures and sharing with you guys. I told them I was going to ask you guys to help. They allowed me into their home and each welcomed me with open arms.

Friends, I have traveled 25 years in ministry and have NEVER asked for help on anything except for helping the homeless and hurting. I feel that we, as the church, are certainly able to help more than we are. I am asking for you to join with me in helping these people, PLEASE. I am determined to do all that I can do to help, but together we can reach so many more hurting.

Here is what I am collecting to hand out early December:
– $5 McDonald gift cards (handing out quarterly)
– Blankets
– (July) Toothbrushes
– (August) Shampoo
– (September) Socks
– (October) Toboggans
– (November) Gloves

Please help with anything and all that you can.
